Anatomy Department
The Department of Anatomy of International Medical College was established in 2000 with the inception of the college activity on the ground floor of the College building. The department follows the undergraduate medical curriculum of the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) revised in 2021. To accommodate the teaching activities of an increased number of students, the Department has expanded her establishment in the years 2025. In the college building the department has ‘Gross Anatomy Wing’ and ‘Cell biology and Histology Wing’ in ground floor and an annexure wing in first floor. Well ventilated and specious Dissection hall, a large histology laboratory and a museum with anatomical specimens are the characteristics of the department.
As per the curriculum, the department is responsible for teaching gross anatomy, histology, embryology and clinical anatomy. The department conducts teaching using lectures, demonstrations, small group tutorials, practical histology and group discussions as methods. Prosected human body, chemical-fixed human organs, various models, audiovisual materials, animations etc, are used with different methods of instruction.
The head of the department works as the subject coordinator and is one of the members of the Phase I committee. Various academic activities are finalized through discussion in the subject committee meeting and coordinated with other departments of the phase in the phase committee meeting.
Departmental Objectives
At the end of the Anatomy course, the students should be able to:
- mention, identify, show, draw and describe the anatomical structure of the human body responsible for carrying out normal body functions.
- apply the acquired knowledge to understand and correlate the other pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical medical subjects.
- execute the acquired knowledge of Anatomy with the knowledge of other medical subjects to provide optimum health services in the country and abroad.
List of Competencies to acquire
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge & skill of understanding human anatomy, functions of different components of the human body, cell biology and human development in clinical perspective.
- Ability to utilize knowledge and skill of understanding spatial relationships, courses & distributions of different components of human in real-life situations.
- Ability to detect the deviation from normal state in the human body about structure, function and development.
- Ability to identify human body components and functional patterns by using internationally accepted terminologies
