Surgery Department
International Medical College Hospital is dynamic and beautiful of 650 bedded hospital. It plays a vital role in providing comprehensive healthcare services to patients through well-coordinated out patient (OPD), admitted and emergency facilities. Surgery department of international medical college hospital provides patients service and academic activities. Surgical and non-surgical of clinical services are available for 24 hours ICU and postoperative care being available for critical and complicated patient.Surgery department has paying and nonpaying bed facilities.
Services:
Indoor: ♦ All admitted patients are taken surgical and nonsurgical services for 24 hours. ♦ Indoor medical officer is available for 24 hours. ♦ Any type of complicated case medical officer consults with RS or professor. ♦Indoor medical officer is instructed to preoperative order, operation theatre call, counselling the patient, written informed consent. ♦ Every day Ward round is started at 09:00am.
Outdoor: ♦ Professor, consultant, RS and outdoor medical officer see the patient in chamber by paying visit fee.
Emergency: ♦ TRIAGE ♦ Primary resuscitation ♦ Primary wound closure ♦ Management of BURN ♦ Plaster immobilization ♦ Emergency Tracheostomy, Chest drains tube insertion ♦ Primary management of trauma.
Operation:
Emergency Operation: ♦ Incision and drainage of abscess ♦ Foreign body removal ♦ Wound debridement ♦ Primary wound closure ♦ Fasciotomy.
Elective Operation (Every Sunday and Wednesday) : ♦Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy ♦Open Cholecystectomy ♦ Hernioplasty♦Hemorrhoidectomy ♦ Laparoscopic ♦ Appendicectomy(open) ♦ Fistulectomy ♦ Mastectomy ♦ Gastrojejunostomy ♦ Gastrectomy ♦ Hydrocele operation.
Academic activities -
3rd year student:
• lecture class takes on every Monday at 08.am.
• Morning Clinical class takes every day from 10 am to 12 pm and evening classes takes at 4 pm to 06 pm.
• Students are distributed different department according to BMDC clinical schedule during ward placement.
• Students are placed general surgery for 15 weeks, Orthopedics for 2 weeks, Radiology for 01-week,
Anesthesia 01 week, and Dentistry for 01 week.
• Card item exam and ward final exam has been taken.
• Year final Assessment examination has been taken after completion of lecture classes.
4th year students:
• lecture class of surgery takes on every Sunday at 09 am and surgery and Allied subject takes classes
every Thursday at 12 pm.
• Morning Clinical class takes every day from 10 am to 12 pm and evening classes takes from 04 pm to 06 pm.
• Students are distributed different department according to BMDC clinical schedule during ward placement.
• Students are placed general surgery for 15 weeks, orthopaedics surgery for 04 weeks, radiotherapy for 01-
week, Neurosurgery for 01 week, Opthalmology for 04 weeks and Otolaryngology for 04 weeks.
• Card item exam and ward final exam has been taken
• Year final Assessment examination has been taken after completion of lecture classes.
5th year students
• lecture classes of surgery take on Saturday at 08 am and 01 pm, Sunday at 12 pm, Monday at 09 am,
Tuesday at 09 am, Wednesday at 09 am and thursday at 01 pm and surgery and Allied subject takes
classes every thursday at 12 pm.
• Morning Clinical class takes every day from 10 am to 12 pm and evening classes takes from 04 pm to 06
pm.
• Students are placed general surgery for 07 weeks, orthopaedics surgery for 04 weeks, pediatrics for 02
weeks, Urology for 02 week, burn and plastic for 01 week, Opthalmology for 04 weeks and Otolaryngology
for 04 weeks.
• Card item exam and ward final exam has been taken
• Year final Assessment examination has been taken after completion of lecture classes.
Block posting
- Students are placed in block for 04 weeks.
- Block students are placed in different department of surgery and allied.
- Block classes are taken from 08 am to 02 pm.
- Final assessment examination is taken after ending the block placement.
